Located in the Great Lakes wine region, the winery sits on a twenty-three acre site in Henrietta Township in Lorain County. The design takes advantage of the views of the vineyards, gentle farmlands, and ponds. The image of the winery captures the timeless character of farm buildings found throughout the area.
Energy efficient design strategies are used in the vernacular forms such as monitor roofs, window placement, and trellis to achieve passive ventilation, shading and solar gain. The project takes advantage of the pond for irrigation, storm water management and water source geothermal. Double wall construction is used to achieve high insulation values for minimum heating and cooling costs. Interior finishes respond in a sustainable way by using ash wood milled form a local site.
